What is Wire EDM?
Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (Wire EDM) is a precise and versatile manufacturing process used in the machining of complex and intricate parts. In this method, a thin wire is utilized to erode material from a workpiece made of conductive materials. The wire, made of brass or copper, is guided through the workpiece while submerged in a dielectric fluid, such as deionized water. By creating a controlled electrical discharge between the wire and the workpiece, material is removed, gradually shaping the desired part.
Advantages of Wire EDM:
These advantages collectively make Wire EDM a valuable resource in various industries, including aerospace, medical, and toolmaking, where precision and accuracy are critical.
